Of all available salts, Celtic salt has the lowest sodium content, at 89.7%. This makes Celtic salt softer and gentler than other salts. Celtic sea salt has a gray color because it mixes with various clay minerals. This makes Celtic sea salt richer in minerals than other forms of salt. Because the salt is not washed, all the minerals are retained. The clay bogs also ensure that Celtic sea salt is naturally purified and therefore contaminant-free. The advantage of 'natural' unrefined salt is that you need much less of it than with 'normal' table salt, as the flavour is much more pronounced. What is dried Celtic sea salt? Unlike regular Celtic sea salt, this variety is dried and then sieved to a fine 5mm.
